The season opener on Saturday, September 30, pairs bassist-composer Florent Ghys with cellist Mike Block. Described as ''highly contrapuntal, intelligent...and inventive...'' (WQXR), and a ''thrilling breed of post-minimal chamber music'' (Time Out NY), Florent Ghys merges the upright bass with electronics and visual elements to create detailed, and elegant pieces that "blend elements of minimalism, pop music and a dose of extravagant wit" (John Schaefer, WNYC). Fresh off his recent critically acclaimed album "Television" (Cantaloupe) Florent brings a set of new compositions for voice, electronics and video. Sharing the bill is Boston based, Grammy Award winning cellist Mike Block. Hailed as the “ideal musician of the 21st-Century” by Yo-Yo-Ma, Block has toured the world with the Silk Road Ensemble all the while developing his own idiosyncratic approach to synthesizing a broad range of styles. For Times Two he offers a rare solo appearance, sharing new material that will be sure to surprise and delight.
